2A District 5 recap October 29, 2013
Indian Rocks Christian added to the longest winning streak in 2A District 5 this week by beating Keswick Christian, 55-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Golden Eagles.
The Crusaders lost to Indian Rocks Christian 55-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Parker Holland was a bright spot for Keswick Christian, as he threw for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss.
Mark Buchanan's team's dynamic duo of Garrett Ross-Johnson and Damian King proved tough for Blake Engelhardt's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Ross-Johnson threw for 302 yards and 5 touchdowns and King had 161 yards receiving. Ryan Ferguson helped Indian Rocks Christian's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 84 yards.
Joey Giardina was a passing and rushing force as Bradenton Christian defeated Canterbury. He completed 8 passes for 135 yards and also ran for 200 yards. Giardina's favorite target this week was Sinclair Laskett, who caught 2 passes for 41 yards.
Carrollwood Day's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Taylor King has thrown for 1,708 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Michael Smith has 37 catches for 886 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Cambridge Christian takes on Canterbury. The Lancers are currently in fourth, while the Crusaders are in second.
The Golden Eagles led the league in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on the Crusaders. Ross-Johnson in the win.
