The Waipahu Marauders will take on the Konawaena Wildcats at TBD on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Waipahu sitting on three straight victories and Konawaena on 11.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Waipahu had no problem doing just that on Saturday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 21-20 victory over the Governors.
Waipahu can attribute much of their success to Eric Stephens, who picked up 144 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Konawaena faced Kapa'a in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Konawaena took down Kapa'a 37-19 on Saturday. Konawaena's victory was all the more impressive since Kapa'a was averaging only 11.67 points allowed on the season.
Waipahu has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Konawaena, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
Waipahu came up short against Konawaena when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 38-28. Can Waipahu avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
