Montague and North Muskegon are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Norsemen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Montague is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.
Montague came out on top against Ludington on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Wildcats blew past the Orioles 8-2. Considering the Wildcats have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Dylan Bailey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ryver Jarka, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, North Muskegon was able to grind out a solid win over Ravenna on Tuesday, taking the game 7-4.
Bryce Colbert was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
Montague's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for North Muskegon, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Montague has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Muskegon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Montague was able to grind out a solid win over North Muskegon when the teams last played back in June of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
