Powdersville is 10-0 against the Mustangs since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Powdersville Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Palmetto Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Powdersville unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by Wren on the road and fell 62-33. While losing is never fun, Powdersville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Hurricanes are ranked tenth).
Despite their defeat, Powdersville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Makayla Assemian, who scored six points along with three blocks and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Assemian has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Leandra Lawson, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Palmetto's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They suffered a tough 52-28 defeat at the hands of Fountain Inn. Palmetto has struggled against the Fury recently, as their contest on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Powdersville's defeat dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Palmetto, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.
Powdersville took their win against the Mustangs in their previous matchup back in January by a conclusive 49-23. Will Powdersville repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
