The Morningside Monarchs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 47-37 defeat to Hawthorne. Morningside was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hawthorne apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Jakobi Smith was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 18 points. Alfredo Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Morningside bumped their record down to 1-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Hawthorne, their victory bumped their record up to 4-9.
Morningside will head out on the road to face off against Leuzinger at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Leuzinger's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Hawthorne, they will be playing at home against Varsity Opponent at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
