After flying high against Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion last Monday, the Athol Bears came back down to earth. Athol took a serious blow against Franklin County Tech on Friday, falling 49-20. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Athol in their matchups with Franklin County Tech: they've now lost six in a row.
Kaitlin Trudeau continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Franklin County Tech, dropping a triple-double on ten points, ten rebounds, and 15 steals. Those 15 steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Hannah Gilbert, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Athol's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-2. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.4 points per game. As for Franklin County Tech, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Athol will finish 2023 at home by hosting South Lancaster Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin County Tech will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Pioneer Valley Regional at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
