The South Anchorage Wolverines will be taking part in a tournament against the Colony Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. South Anchorage's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Colony's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
South Anchorage's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Chugiak. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.
The result came thanks to Millicent Wurst's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 15 Ks.
At the plate, South Anchorage saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Molly Stone, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Colony faced Lathrop in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over the Malemutes. Considering the Knights have won 16 games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Emma Minnick made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Alexis Congdon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alesha Crowther, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Colony kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Colony is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for South Anchorage, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-1.
South Anchorage suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Colony in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
