Tornillo hasn't had much luck against Alpine recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Coyotes will look to defend their home field against the Bucks at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.
Tornillo made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Anthony, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Coyotes blew past the Wildcats 21-11 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Coyotes as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Alpine came tearing into Friday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Blue Devils an 18-0 shutout. The Bucks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Taryn Hardin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kacy Hawkins, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Zariah Galvan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.
Alpine hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive contests.
Alpine pushed their record up to 12-14 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Tornillo, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-9.
Tornillo might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Alpine in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Coyotes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
