The Ashley Screaming Eagle will square off against the West Brunswick Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ashley has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ashley came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-3 to North Brunswick. The Screaming Eagle haven't had much luck with the Scorpions recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Ashley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elin Bentley, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, West Brunswick got themselves on the board against South Brunswick on Monday, but South Brunswick never followed suit. They blew past the Cougars 6-0. Considering the Trojans have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Pressley Wilson and Olivia Brown were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Wilson didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over 7.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Brown didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave Wilson a new career-high. At bat, Wilson went 3-for-6 with one triple, one stolen base, and one double, while Brown went 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That triple was Wilson's first of the season.
In other batting news, Brooke Somers was excellent, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kady Long, who went 2-for-6 with one run and one double.
West Brunswick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
West Brunswick is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Ashley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
Ashley might still be hurting after the 11-5 loss they got from West Brunswick when the teams last played back in March. Will the Screaming Eagle have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
