The Rangely Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Buena Vista Demons at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Rangely has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 22.
Rangely came up short against North Fork on Saturday, falling 11-5.
Rangely saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Landon Carlson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Trey Lewis also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buena Vista). They put the hurt on Center with a sharp 19-2 victory on Wednesday. The Demons haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Buena Vista let Knox Reid and Hudson Wingo run wild. Reid got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Wingo went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Wingo has posted since back in May of 2024. Logan Scott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Buena Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Buena Vista's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Rangely, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rangely has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buena Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rangely was able to grind out a solid win over Buena Vista when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 6-2. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
