Basketball Recap: Pinole Valley's Run of Three Straight Victories Now Over

After a string of three wins, Pinole Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The contest between them and the Fremont Tigers didn't end well, with the Pinole Valley Spartans falling 72-57. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 481st, while the Tigers are ranked 229th).

When it comes to explaining why Pinole Valley lost, don't look at Jaylin Reed. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. Reed's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of De'Ari Simmons, who posted 15 points.

Deyonte Spears was nothing short of spectacular for Fremont: he went 9 of 12 on his way to 21 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tyreese West, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Pinole Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Fremont, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Pinole Valley and Bellarmine College Prep will face off at 4:55 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Bellarmine College Prep will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Pinole Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fremont, they will take on Oakwood at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. One thing working in Fremont's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
