After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Loudoun County HomeSchool, the Fredericksburg V Victory were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They took down Non Varsity Opponent 62-47. That's another feather in the cap for Fredericksburg V, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Fredericksburg V's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam King led the charge by scoring 16 points along with three steals. King has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Chris Jones was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Fredericksburg V's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Non Varsity Opponent, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 70-166-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fredericksburg V will challenge Spirit HomeSchool at 7:45 p.m. on Monday. Spirit HomeSchool presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Fredericksburg V in Virginia (Spirit HomeSchool is ranked 173rd, while Fredericksburg V is ranked 351st). Non Varsity Opponent will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Patterson at 12:00 p.m. on January 6th. Patterson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Non Varsity Opponent likes a good challenge.
