The Aquinas Monarchs suffered their closest loss yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of Kearney Catholic by a score of 48-46. Aquinas was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Kearney Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Aquinas still got an impressive performance from Bryant Stouffer, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Garett Novacek, who scored 11 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kearney Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Owen Axmann, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Oliver Sharp was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Aquinas and nudges their season record down to 9-6. As for Kearney Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season.
Aquinas will head out on the road to take on Grand Island Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Kearney Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hershey.
