Churubusco will face off against Fremont at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Churubusco has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bluffton hit Churubusco with a six-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Tigers, falling 11-1. The Eagles have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, Fremont had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Jackson Foster, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Cayden Hufnagle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Fremont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Fremont's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Churubusco, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Churubusco has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fremont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Churubusco took their win against Fremont when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will Churubusco repeat their success, or does Fremont has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
