Walthill has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Walthill knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Hartington-Newcastle likes a good challenge.
Even though Bancroft-Rosalie scored an imposing 72 points on Tuesday, Walthill still came out on top. Walthill had just enough and edged Bancroft-Rosalie out 75-72. Given Walthill's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Bancroft-Rosalie is ranked 148th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Walthill's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keesan Kaaihue, who scored 23 points. Another player making a difference was Adrian Phillips, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Hartington-Newcastle scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-35 win over Tri County Northeast. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Hartington-Newcastle has managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hartington-Newcastle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cole Rosener, who scored 15 points. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayton Sudbeck, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Walthill pushed their record up to 4-0 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Hartington-Newcastle's record is now 2-3.
Walthill came up short against Hartington-Newcastle in their previous matchup back in January, falling 42-35. Can Walthill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
