Coral Gables and Ferguson are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Cavaliers will head out on the road to take on the Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Coral Gables had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Hialeah on Thursday. The Cavaliers never let the Thoroughbreds get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Thoroughbreds: they've now won three in a row.
Miguel Castellanos looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kevon Caffey and Julian Saveedra did most of the damage at the plate: Caffey scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Saveedra scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Saveedra has become a key player for Coral Gables: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-10-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorge Miranda, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Coral Gables always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ferguson). They blew past Keys Gate 18-11 on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Falcons, who have now won seven contests in a row.
Ferguson also got a great performance from Brandon Esquea as he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Adrian Perez was a standout: he got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Justin Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Coral Gables' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Ferguson, their record is now 13-7-1.
Coral Gables couldn't quite finish off Ferguson when the teams last played back in February and fell 4-2. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
