Two dominant signal callers in Cheyanne Thornhill and Tehani Shigematsu are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon Pirate at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Mater Academy East Las Vegas didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Cimarron-Memorial, but they still walked away with a 34-28 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Thornhill and Jasmine White were among the main playmakers for Mater Academy East Las Vegas as the former threw for 171 yards and four touchdowns while completing 92.9% of her passes and the latter rushed for 27 yards and one touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Thornhill a new career-high in passer rating (169.9).
Another reason for the win was Mater Academy East Las Vegas' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for nine sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Serina Mendez and Miranda Lopez, who racked up eight sacks between them. Mendez also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.
Meanwhile, Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. Everything went their way against the Pirates as they made off with a 37-14 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirate, who have now won seven games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas better keep an eye on Shigematsu. She was instrumental in Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon's win, rushing for 171 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 193 yards and four touchdowns. Hendrix Wilson was another key player, picking up 97 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.6 points per game. As for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
Everything came up roses for Mater Academy East Las Vegas against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 36-7 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Shigematsu, who rushed for 132 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries.
