The Mullen Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 59 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-59 to Overland. Mullen was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Overland apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Mullen had strong showings from Mason Bonner, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Jordan Leslie, who scored 13 points along with nine assists and eight rebounds. Leslie is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Anderson Brendle, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Overland's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tj Manuel, who scored 15 points. Siraaj Ali was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Mullen's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Overland, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-6.
Mullen will square off against Cherry Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jeremiah Hammond and Leslie. As for Overland, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eaglecrest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Eaglecrest and Overland are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
