Softball Recap: Battle Mountain Extends Winning Streak to Five

Battle Mountain entered their tilt with West Wendover on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Wolverines get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. Considering the Longhorns have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Ella Matheus was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Matheus was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Battle Mountain got a massive performance out of Yadira Vazquez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Halle Edgar, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Battle Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .625 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Battle Mountain's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for West Wendover, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Battle Mountain will host Pershing County at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Wendover, they will square off against Silver Stage at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines are facing the Nighthawks at the right time seeing as the Nighthawks are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
