After nine games on the road, Gilbert is heading back home. They will take on the Dreher Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Dreher took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Gilbert, who comes in off a win.
Gilbert put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They really took it to Brookland-Cayce for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-23 win on the road. The victory was just what Gilbert needed coming off of a 53-16 loss in their prior match.
Gilbert can attribute much of their success to Blythe Price, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, and Ahleira Leaphart, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Price has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anabel Godfrey, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Dreher, who are still winless after their tenth match. They were dealt a 65-28 loss at the hands of Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Dreher can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Orangeburg-Wilkinson is ranked 59th).
Gilbert has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Dreher, they bumped their record down to 0-10 with that loss, which was their seventh straight at home.
Gilbert ended up a good deal behind Dreher in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 61-44. Thankfully for Gilbert, Ayanna Jacobs (who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
