The New Smyrna Beach Barracudas will head out on the road to challenge the Spruce Creek Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Spruce Creek took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on New Smyrna Beach, who comes in off a win.
New Smyrna Beach scored the most points they've had all season to find success last Friday. They breezed by Anclote on the road to the tune of 67-33. Given New Smyrna Beach's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Anclote is ranked 717th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Smyrna Beach got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lukas Parschauer out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Parschauer is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 12 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Reik, who scored 15 points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Spruce Creek's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 81-51 defeat at the hands of Mainland. Spruce Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-27.
New Smyrna Beach's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Spruce Creek, they bumped their record down to 4-12 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
New Smyrna Beach was able to grind out a solid win over Spruce Creek when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 58-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Smyrna Beach since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
