Grayson County is 8-2 against Galax since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Maroon Tide at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Grayson County took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Holston, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Blue Devils won by a run and slipped past the Cavaliers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Blue Devils have posted since May 3, 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Galax). They blew past Bland County 28-3 on Wednesday. The Maroon Tide haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Elizabeth Sizemore was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, firing off five runs, seven RBI, and four doubles while going 5-for-5. Those doubles were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Maddson Bobbitt was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Calynn King, who scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Galax always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory got Grayson County back to even at 5-5. As for Galax, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-4.
Grayson County came out on top in a nail-biter against Galax when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroon Tide turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
