The Barrington Fillies/Broncos will face off against the Whitney Young Dolphins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Barrington will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Barrington took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Hersey, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Fillies/Broncos came out on top in a nail-biter against the Huskies on Friday, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fillies/Broncos have posted against the Huskies since May 14, 2021.
Jack Postma spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Barrington's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Whitney Young, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Taft a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Dolphins considering their two-run performance the game before.
Isaac Stoelinga was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Whitney Young is undefeated when Stoelinga posts two or more runs, but 8-13 otherwise. Luke Yolich was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Whitney Young kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Barrington pushed their record up to 15-5-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Whitney Young, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-13.
Everything went Barrington's way against Whitney Young in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Barrington made off with a 15-2 win. Will the Fillies/Broncos repeat their success, or do the Dolphins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
