The Pine Crest Panthers's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They escaped with a win against Calvary Christian Academy by the margin of a single free throw, 44-43. Given Pine Crest's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Calvary Christian Academy is ranked 396th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Pine Crest to victory were Franky Garfi and Isabella M sangha. Garfi scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks, while M sangha dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Garfi has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times she's played.
Calvary Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Camryn Kanell, who scored seven points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Wakefield, who scored 12 points.
Pine Crest's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pine Crest won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Oxbridge Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will play host again and welcome Saint Andrew's, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Saint Andrew's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Thursday.
