The Westwood Panthers had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.7 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They walked away with an 81-70 victory over Fairfield. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while Fairfield is ranked 907th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood found their leader in underclassman Kavian Bryant, who scored 46 points along with six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bryant has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chris Carter, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Westwood is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Fairfield, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westwood will take on Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Westwood likes a good challenge. As for Fairfield, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Teague at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Teague focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
