The Northfield Nighthawks stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 94-64 victory over Westminster. The score was close at the half, but Northfield pulled away in the second half with 53 points.
Northfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Daquan Slayton out in front who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gyasi Hawthorne, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Westminster lost, one person who can't be blamed is Daigan Gray. Despite the final result, he scored 29 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gray has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elias Garcia, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
The win (which was Northfield's third in a row) raised their record to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.0 points per game. As for Westminster, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Northfield will look to defend their home court on Friday against Denver West at 7:30 p.m. Westminster won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Northglenn at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Northglenn focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Tuesday.
