Andress is 1-9 against Burges since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eagles will square off against the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Andress has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
El Paso hit Andress with a four-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Tigers, falling 11-5.
Peyton Eissens put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and eight unearned) runs off six hits. Eissens was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Angela Leyva made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jazlynn Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Burges hadn't done well against Canutillo recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Eagles 9-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Antonella Ulloa was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Valeria Sanchez was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Burges kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive contests.
Burges' victory bumped their record up to 16-12. As for Andress, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-14.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Andress hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Burges struggles in that department as they've averaged .399. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Andress suffered a grim 14-2 defeat to Burges when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
