After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Incarnate Word Academy, the Mater Dei Knights were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They came out on top against Belleville East by a score of 54-41. Given Mater Dei's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Belleville East is ranked 318th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Mater Dei to victory were Maris Zurliene and Alyssa Koerkenmeier. Zurliene scored 14 points along with two steals, while Koerkenmeier scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Ringwald, who scored ten points.
Mater Dei is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Belleville East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.
Mater Dei will take on Taylorville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Taylorville is looking to tack on another W to their seven-game streak on the road. As for Belleville East, they will challenge Mascoutah at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
