Baseball Recap: Port St. Joe Comes Up Short

If Port St. Joe was riding high fresh off their 15-1 takedown of Marathon last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks lost 18-8 to the Marathon Dolphins on Monday. The Tiger Sharks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dolphins earlier this season, when they won 15-1.

Port St. Joe saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Harris, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Harris has become a key player for Port St. Joe: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-7 otherwise. Eli Godwin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Even though they lost, Port St. Joe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Port St. Joe's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Marathon, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Port St. Joe will take on Edgewood Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Marathon, they will face off against Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) at 7:00 p.m. on March 24th.
