Simla is a perfect 3-0 against Flatirons Academy since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Cubs are taking a road trip to take on the Bison at 12:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Simla got the win against Kiowa by a conclusive 13-7. The Cubs haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Teague Jones was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Nathaniel Cauthon was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Flatirons Academy put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Denver Academy. The Bison were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Mustangs.
Braxton Kelley and Gunnar Ast made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kelley pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ast pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Kelley went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Ast went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Flatirons Academy let Caleb Doughty and Mateo Pope run wild. Doughty went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Pope went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Blaise Doughty also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Flatirons Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Simla's record now sits at 6-4. As for Flatirons Academy, their record is now 12-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Simla has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Flatirons Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Simla was able to grind out a solid victory over Flatirons Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cubs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
