After flying high against the Hamilton Lions last Thursday, the New Site Royals came back down to earth. New Site took a 60-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. It was the first time this season that New Site let down their fans at home.
New Site's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayla Stanley, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Stanley scored 15 or more points. Brooklyn Hodum was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
New Site's defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-7. As for Walnut, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8.
New Site won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Urchins at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. As for Walnut, they will be playing at home against the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hamilton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Wildcats are ranked 89th).
