The San Angelo Central Bobcats''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 41-34 to Frenship. While losing is never fun, San Angelo Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while Frenship is ranked 47th).
When it comes to explaining why San Angelo Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Christian English. Despite the final result, he rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns. English was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 54 yards. Another player making a difference was Tyree Brawley, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Frenship to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hudson Hutcheson, who threw for 413 yards and five touchdowns while completing 83.8% of his passes. Hutcheson is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last six games he's played. Leyton Stone was another key contributor, picking up 123 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
San Angelo Central's loss was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which bumped their record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-2 Permian and 8-2 Midland Legacy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72% over those games). As for Frenship, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
San Angelo Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Frenship will head out on the road to face off against Eastwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Eastwood's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four games.
