Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Sarasota Sailors proved on Tuesday. They blew past Parrish Community 71-26 on the road. With that win, Sarasota brought their scoring average up to 54.7 points per game.
Sarasota's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kennedy McClain, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 4 assists. The contest was McClain's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofi Miller, who scored 17 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Despite the loss, Parrish Community still got an impressive performance from Mary Portwood, who scored 16 points. Portwood scored a full 61.5% of Parrish Community's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Sarasota and bumps their season record up to 2-1. As for Parrish Community, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Sarasota will be playing in front of their home fans against Bradenton Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bradenton Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Sarasota is ranked 27th). As for Parrish Community, they will head out on the road to face off against Lemon Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
