The Greenfield-Central Cougars put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Shelbyville with a 49-44 victory. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Greenfield-Central has scored all year.
Greenfield-Central was led to victory by Braylon Mullins and Boston Willard. Mullins scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Willard scored 14 points along with five steals. Mullins hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Braden Robertson, who scored seven points.
Shelbyville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mar Nicholson, who scored 11 points. Damon Badgley was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Shelbyville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Greenfield-Central pushed their record up to 15-0 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home. As for Shelbyville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.
Greenfield-Central will head out on the road to square off against Pendleton Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pendleton Heights will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Greenfield-Central is ranked eighth). As for Shelbyville, they will be playing at home against Indian Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Indian Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
