After a string of three wins, the St. Augustine Catholic Wolves's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were dealt a 73-39 defeat at the hands of The Gregory School. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Augustine Catholic has scored all season.
St. Augustine Catholic lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Peter Dogbegah, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Dogbegah hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Lance Marchessault, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead The Gregory School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Razin Smith, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Smith has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Devin Dawson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
St. Augustine Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for The Gregory School, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-3.
St. Augustine Catholic will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Chandler Prep at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Chandler Prep is ranked 205th, while St. Augustine Catholic is ranked 208th). The Gregory School on the road again on Tuesday and play against Ray at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Joseph Morales and Smith.
