The Purnell Swett Rams will face off against the Cape Fear Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Purnell Swett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Friday just wasn't the day for Purnell Swett's offense. They lost 10-0 to Gray's Creek on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Rams' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Purnell Swett saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kam Locklear, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, while Cape Fear put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Lumberton. Cape Fear blew past Lumberton 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Colts, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
McKinley Kolasa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Allie Dawson and Amari Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Dawson went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Adams went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. Another player making a difference was Addy Davis, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Cape Fear always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lumberton only posted an OBP of .222.
Cape Fear's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-3. As for Purnell Swett, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Purnell Swett hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Cape Fear struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
