Softball Recap: Rockingham County Finds Playoff Glory Versus Piedmont

Rockingham County extended their postseason success on Tuesday against Piedmont. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Panthers. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Ava Grace Pruitt spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Macey Hardy was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Cameron Winant was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Rockingham County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Rockingham County's victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Piedmont, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 21-6 record.

Coming up, Rockingham County will square off against Oak Grove on Friday. The Grizzlies' pitching crew has only allowed 1.3 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Piedmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
