The Lawton Wolverines lost against the Choctaw Yellowjackets back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Lawton took a serious blow against Choctaw, falling 58-6. While losing is never fun, Lawton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Choctaw is ranked 32nd).
Pene Vaisagite threw for 100 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Rucker was his top target, picking up 88 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Nathen (nate) Jones rushed for 30 yards.
Choctaw was led to victory by Mayor Morgan and Cash Williams. Morgan rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, while Williams threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. Deshawn Smith was another key contributor, gaining 59 total yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Lawton to a paltry 92 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Choctaw's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Will Smith and his two sacks.
This is the second loss in a row for Lawton and nudges their season record down to 2-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Deer Creek (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79.2% over those games). As for Choctaw, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lawton will take on Putnam City North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Choctaw, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Putnam City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Putnam City is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
