Basketball Recap: Mt. Olive Takes a Loss

Mt. Olive lost against Bunker Hill back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mt. Olive Wildcats were dealt a 70-34 loss at the hands of the Bunker Hill Minutemen.

When it comes to explaining why Mt. Olive lost, don't look at Matthew Bywater. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 10 on his way to 14 points and six steals. Bywater is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of David Schoen, who posted five points and five rebounds.

Cole Yates continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bunker Hill, putting up 33 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Yates has scored at least a third of Bunker Hill's points. Pete Jarden was another key player, posting 13 points.

Mt. Olive dropped their record down to 4-10 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Bunker Hill, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-11.

Mt. Olive will take on Lebanon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Olive is facing Lebanon at the right time seeing as Lebanon is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Bunker Hill, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 81-56 win against Gillespie on the 13th.
