Basketball Recap: Morningside Academy Piles Up the Points Against South Fork

Morningside Academy came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 46-15 victory over the South Fork Bulldogs. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 24 points or more this season.

Morningside Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Arianah Wallace, who posted 13 points in addition to six boards and six steals. Wallace is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. Sam Flannigan was another key player, putting up 13 points and eight rebounds.

Morningside Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Fork only posted one assist.

When it comes to explaining why South Fork lost, don't look at Isabella Shearn. Despite the final result, she scored four points along with six boards and five steals.

Morningside Academy has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.7 points per game. As for South Fork, they dropped their record down to 0-16 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy has already played their next contest (against Calvary Chapel Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. South Fork will challenge Okeechobee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
