The Howell Rebels are taking a road trip to challenge the Point Pleasant Beach Garnet Gulls at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Howell is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Ranney on Tuesday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ranney.
Howell got a good showing from Andrew Morin, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Morin a new career-low in walks (zero).
At the plate, Howell saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Todisco, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Point Pleasant Beach). Everything went their way against Bayonne on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-2 victory. The Garnet Gulls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
TOMMY CONROY made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Point Pleasant Beach got a massive performance out of DANNY LUBACH, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI LUBACH has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was BRODY POWERS, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Point Pleasant Beach has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Howell, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Howell hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Point Pleasant Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Howell beat Point Pleasant Beach 5-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Garnet Gulls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
