The Quincy Notre Dame Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Carrollton Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Quincy Notre Dame 3.4, Carrollton 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Southwestern hit Quincy Notre Dame with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders fell just short of the Piasa Birds by a score of 9-7. It was the first time this season that the Raiders let down their fans at home.
Meanwhile, Carrollton put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Routt Catholic get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.
Hannah Uhles and Brookelyn Eilerman were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Uhles struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Eilerman tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Uhles has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances. At bat, Uhles went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Eilerman went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Eilerman has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Carrollton let Lauren Flowers and Vanna Holmes run wild. Flowers got on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs, while Holmes got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Flowers has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hayden McMurtrie, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Carrollton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in 16 consecutive matchups.
Carrollton pushed their record up to 17-0 with the victory, which was their 25th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Quincy Notre Dame, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-3.
Everything went Quincy Notre Dame's way against Carrollton in their previous matchup back in May of 2018, as Quincy Notre Dame made off with a 9-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
