Angelina Eakman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Ainsley Baldwin was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Neugebauer, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Mercer was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Redbank Valley only posted a batting average of .250.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Sharpsville's offense. They lost 7-0 to Cambridge Springs on Saturday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Blue Devils were not able to get on the board.
This is the second loss in a row for Sharpsville and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for Mercer, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Sharpsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mercer has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Sharpsville, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Mercer's sizable advantage in that area, the Blue Devils will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mercer beat Sharpsville 5-2 in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
