Tularosa extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping them up to 11-7. They blew past the Socorro Warriors 16-1. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Gabby Salas made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tularosa got a massive performance out of Kayleigh Bigas, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Bigas a new career-high. Ani Sambrano was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Tularosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
As for Socorro, they dropped their record down to 6-11 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. They were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but Tularosa's pitcher proved too tough.
On Socorro's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tatjana Castillo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Castillo is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Tularosa will have a chance to go back-to-back against Socorro: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
