The South Effingham Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Burke County Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
South Effingham pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 84-59 walloping at the hands of Southeast Bulloch. While losing is never fun, South Effingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 420th, while Southeast Bulloch is ranked 140th).
South Effingham's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Will Harlin, who scored 16 points, and Corbin McGuire who scored 11 points along with 4 steals. Carson Cook was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Meanwhile, Burke County pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cross Creek. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Burke County in their matchups with Cross Creek: they've now lost nine in a row.
South Effingham still hasn't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Burke County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
