The Buckhorn Bucks lost against the Fort Payne Wildcats back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Buckhorn took a 23-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fort Payne. Buckhorn has struggled against Fort Payne recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Fort Payne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dax Varnadore, who rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown. Conner Hughes did his part by putting the 'special' in special teams, booting in three field goals and two extra points.
Buckhorn's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Fort Payne, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buckhorn will take on Decatur at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Decatur is ranked 130th, while Buckhorn is ranked 150th). As for Fort Payne, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Athens at 7:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Brogan Gross and Varnadore.
