2A Tri-Peaks recap Oct. 9, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Trinidad, who took down 87th ranked Trinidad, 27-26. Zach Meyer threw for 251 yards and one touchdown and ran for 81 yards in the win.
Florence extended the longest winning streak in 2A Tri-Peaks this week by beating Lamar, 46-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
La Junta's dynamic duo of Elias Altamirano and Joel Johnson proved tough for St. Mary's to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Altamirano threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns and Johnson had 167 yards receiving. Joseph Jarmillo helped La Junta's passing attack out by catching three balls for 13 yards.
Justevin Coberly was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 223 yards on 18 carries as the Savages topped the Pirates. Javier Becerra also contributed to the rushing game with 44 yards on the ground.
Tanner Cox made the biggest impact on defense this week as La Junta bested St. Mary's. The senior racked up 1.0 sack.
Alamosa's Meyer and Jacob Heaton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Meyer has thrown for 1358 yards this season, while Heaton, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 43 catches for 491 yards. Chris DeAngelis from the Miners leads the league in rushing with 1108 yards.
A big matchup in 2A Tri-Peaks this week will be when Clint Buderus' team takes on Florence. As it stands, the Tigers are in second, while Mark Buderus' team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when La Junta and the Huskies face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Tigers comes in having scored 209 this season, while Florence has scored 202. La Junta scored 33 points last week as it topped Nic Olney's team.
Manitou Springs took down Dolores Huerta Prep 42-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Johnny Swanson threw for 27 yards and ran for 78 yards in the win.
