Pershing County strolled past Coral Academy of Science - Reno with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 41-23. Given Pershing County's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Coral Academy of Science - Reno is ranked 80th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pershing County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raegan Burrows, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Burrows has scored at least a third of Pershing County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Yasmine McKinney, who scored 14 points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Coral Academy of Science - Reno struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Pershing County's victory bumped their record up to 15-1. As for Coral Academy of Science - Reno, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pershing County and Sierra Lutheran will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Sierra Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
