Oswego and Joliet West are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Yorkville hit Joliet West with a five-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers lost 11-1 to the Foxes.
Joliet West saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Mielke, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Oswego's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 7.8 runs thus far. As for Joliet West, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.
Joliet West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Oswego has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .510. It's a different story for Joliet West, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Oswego's hitters?
Oswego skirted past Joliet West 2-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
