Alamo Navajo is 8-2 against Mountainair since January of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Alamo Navajo Cougars will head out to take on the Mountainair Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Alamo Navajo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 99-64 win over Hondo Valley. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Alamo Navajo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andy Pino, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Pino a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Scotty Guerro, who shot 6-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 27 points and 11 boards.
Alamo Navajo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Mountainair last Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Carrizozo out of the water with a 75-23 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-15.
Mountainair found their leader in sophomore Brody Brazil, who went 7-for-13 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points. The matchup was Brazil's third in a row with at least 23 points. Another player making a difference was Marcos Sisneros, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 14 points along with four blocks and three steals.
Mountainair has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.5 points over those games. Alamo Navajo's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Alamo Navajo has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mountainair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Alamo Navajo was dealt a bruising 78-50 defeat at the hands of Mountainair in their previous meeting two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brazil, who shot 6-for-11 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 30 points and ten rebounds. Now that Alamo Navajo knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
